Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMI)

As a business owner or fleet manager, you have a legal responsibility to ensure that your commercial vehicles are roadworthy and meet the required safety standards. These standards, set by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) (formerly known as VOSA), help ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines. A Preventive Maintenance Inspection (PMI) is essential for verifying whether your vehicles meet these standards.

A PMI inspection covers all critical components, including brakes, steering, suspension, and lighting systems. It also assesses the body structure, tires, and exhaust emissions to ensure your vehicle is safe and compliant. Failing to meet DVSA requirements can result in penalties, fines, or even vehicle impoundment. Regular PMI inspections not only help you avoid these risks but also demonstrate your commitment to road safety and legal compliance.

DVSA standards serve as a benchmark for vehicle inspections in the UK, ensuring that all commercial vehicles meet essential safety and regulatory requirements. By adhering to these standards, you contribute to safer roads for both drivers and other road users while maintaining the integrity of your fleet.

A PMI inspection is a thorough assessment carried out by trained professionals following DVSA guidelines. These inspections cover mechanical systems, exterior and interior condition, and diagnostic evaluations. Key areas checked include the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, fuel system, exhaust, electrical systems, steering, mirrors, lights, seat belts, airbags, and more. Additional checks, such as fluid analysis and computer diagnostics, help assess the overall health of your vehicle.

By conducting regular PMI inspections, you ensure your fleet remains safe, compliant, and efficient, reducing the risk of unexpected breakdowns costly repairs or accidents.

Our expert technicians conduct a thorough inspection to identify any issues that could lead to a failed MOT, saving you time, money, and unnecessary downtime.

Our Pre-MOT inspection follows DVSA standards and covers all essential components, including:
Brakes & Suspension – Checking for wear, efficiency, and performance.
Steering & Axles – Ensuring proper alignment and functionality.
Lighting & Electrical Systems – Verifying all lights, indicators, and wiring.
Tyres & Wheels – Inspecting tread depth, condition, and alignment.
Bodywork & Chassis – Checking for structural integrity and corrosion.
Exhaust Emissions – Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
Mirrors, Windscreen & Wipers – Ensuring clear visibility and road safety.
Seatbelts & Safety Features – Verifying functionality for driver and passenger protection.

By addressing potential faults before your MOT test, you can avoid costly failures, reduce vehicle downtime, and ensure your HGV remains roadworthy and compliant.

Maintenance Inspections (6 - 12 weekly checks)

HGVs must undergo regular safety inspections at intervals ranging from 6 to 12 weeks, depending on their usage and operating conditions. Vehicles subjected to constant heavy loads may require more frequent checks, typically every 4 to 8 weeks, while those with lighter usage might be inspected every 10 to 13 weeks. These scheduled inspections help identify and resolve potential issues early, ensuring compliance with DVSA regulations, maintaining roadworthiness, and preventing costly breakdowns or accidents.
